COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds

for the Confirmed Cases of Bangkok University Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019
(COVID-19) Infection

Eligibility of Students Approved for the COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds for the Confirmed Cases of BU Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection:

  • Students of all programs of Bangkok University at the Undergraduate Degree, Master’s Degree, and Doctoral Degree Levels who enrolled in the Semester 2 of the Academic Year 2020 and the Summer Session of the Academic Year 2020 who contracted the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection (excluding students who are on academic leave, exchange students, and special students in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of Bangkok University), who suffer from illnesses as result of  the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-1) Infection.
  • Students at the graduate degree levels who registered to maintain their student status in the Semester 2 of the Academic Year 2020 and in the Summer Session of the Academic Year 2020 due to maximum enrolled credits allowed for their thesis /dissertation as required for their program.

COVID-19 Screening Test:

  • Students identified as at High-Risk by the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) refers to students who reside in or return from the area affected by the outbreaks or those who closely interact with COVID-19 confirmed patients or persons who reside in or return from the areas affected by the outbreaks and are symptomatic. If identified as at High-Risk, the student is eligible for the COVID-19 screening test at any public or private hospital free of charge in accordance with the government’s policies.
  • Students identified as Not at High Risk who is concerned and suspects of the COVID-19 infection and wishes to take a screening test at any public or private hospital is required to bear any incurred cost of the COVID-19 screening test.

Remarks: In case a test result confirms that the student contracts the COVID-19, the student is not eligible to claim an expense for the screening test from the COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds as it is not deemed as medical expenses.

Conditions and Terms of Coverage of the COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds for the Confirmed Cases of BU Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection:

  • An actual outstanding balance of the medical expenses for the treatment of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection not covered by related-government agencies but not exceeding 10,000 Baht. For international students, the Funds covers an actual outstanding balance of the medical expenses but not exceeding 10,000 Baht.
  • An actual outstanding balance of medical expenses for a confirmed case of student suffering from a comatose state or critical illnesses caused by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection but not exceeding 50,000.00 baht (fifty thousand baht)  
  • For students suffering from critical illnesses such as coma, brain and nervous system damage or disorders, terminal illness, and or death that is a direct result from the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection, the University shall award the student’s legal parent or a beneficiary the amount of 50,000 Baht.

Remarks:

     1). The COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds for the Confirmed Cases of BU Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection is effective from April 2, 2021 to July 31, 2021 or until further notice. The provision of the funds is at the discretion of the University and is subject to change as deemed appropriate by the University.

     2). If the student who is a confirmed patient of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection is found not to be in compliance with any related-laws, announcements, orders or measures for prevention and control of the spread of the COVID-19, the student will not be eligible to claim the COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds for the Confirmed Cases of BU Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection.

     3) A consideration for an approval of the COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds for the Confirmed Cases of BU Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection is at the discretion of the Committee for the COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds for the Confirmed Cases of BU Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection and the result shall be deemed as final.  

Instructions on How to File a Request for the COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds for the Confirmed Cases of BU Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection:

  • Students shall pay for the medical expenses for COVID-19 in advance and submit a request for the COVID-19 Medical Expense Relief Funds for the Confirmed Cases of BU Students Contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection with the following documents.              

               1) A Request Form, available for download at bulinks.bu.ac.th

               2) A Copy of Student Identification Card or National Identification Card, or Passport (for International Students)

               3) Medical History, from the beginning of the treatment to present

               4) An original copy of a medical certificate with a clear diagnosis from a qualified doctor stating that the illness is caused by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection

               5) An original copy of the hospital receipt for the medical expenses

               6) A copy of the bank book of the student/legal parent or legal guardian

  • Students may submit a request form and all supporting documents to the Student Activity Development and Welfare Division, Bangkok University, by a registered post within 30 days from the date issued on the hospital receipt of the medical expenses.
